I've been on the lookout for a Soldano ever since I stupidly sold my Hot Rod 50+ five years ago. In retrospect, it was my favorite high-gain head of all time.
Recently I've read about Jet City amps, the "poor man's Soldano". Turns out that the main Jet City line (now discontinued) is a clone of the Hot Rod circuit which I so love, but with lower quality components at a DIRT CHEAP price. ON TOP OF THAT, someone was selling the 100 watt version for about $350. I ended up buying it and now I have a Soldano knock-off
This amp is really good. I'd say it's somewhere between an actual Soldano and a Mesa Rectifier, sound-wise. For a $350 amp to sound like that, is... Impressive. The Soldano DNA is totally there. Does it sound like my old Hot Rod 50+? Nope. But it's close AND can be modded to being even closer to the actual Hot Rod or SLO circuit.
TL;DR: $350 head sounds like $2k.
