RJD Doco coming end of September

Post: # 248346Post Dinosaur David B

This needs to be told, but it is going to destroy me.   :crying-blue:

You can see the clips here: https://www.youtube.com/c/RonnieJamesDio

They premiered it recently with Wendy Dio, Eddie Trunk, Geezer and Sebastian Bach, and they were all reduced to tears by the end.

It's not a restring until I'm bleeding.

My wife and I can't wait. I live for this kind of thing.

I've loved him since I was 9 years old.

I heard Ronnie's voice for the first time in 1975 (I was 9 years old too), as did countless other french people, even though they have no clue as to who he is. The reason is the following piece of trivia.

Back then, there were three channels on French TV, and the second channel (named "Antenne 2") used the broadcast the cartoon clip of "Love is All" as an interlude when they were experiencing technical difficulties -- which happened actually quite often, but at random moments, of course. So you were watching TV, and all of sudden...  "Everybody's got to live together... "

Obviously, the song became hugely popular. A lot of people who lived that era still remember "the cartoon with the singing frog and the violinist grasshopper", but they don't have the smallest idea about who sung this. Later on, there were even nasty covers sung in French (lousy french versions of classic songs are a terrible national habit).

When my interest in music started 4-5 years later, I discovered Rainbow thanks to an uncle who introduced me to countless 70s rock acts, and I eventually made the connection between the vox on "Man On The Silver Mountain" and "Love is All"...

As for the doco, the only chance to see it around these parts will be on German-French "Arte TV" in a few years.

Funnily enough the cartoon clip of "Love is All" was my first exposure to Ronnie too as it used to get shown on saturday morning kids TV shows like Tiswas. I had no idea what it was or where it came from at the time, I dont think it charted but it was shown many times and I loved it. It was only later on in the 80s when I found out who sang on it.

It's EXCELLENT!

Of course, I need Scotch and a box of Kleenex to get through it.
