Frusciante is as far away from a dino player as I can think of, IMHO.

I think the dude’s got it, too much Hendrix in him not to, but I’d agree that RHCP aren’t a Dino band. I retract John. But what about Muse?

I'm not familiar with Muse, I've heard maybe 3-4 songs, and they didn't sound guitar-oriented at all, more like modern brit-pop. Which ones should I check out, where Bellamy's playing is prominent?

Not sure at all about this qualifying the guy for Alchemy, there are other players I can think of that I'd deem more deserving (including some in heavier genres). But that's up to Dave.

I would love some examples.

Re. Matt, I think he’s more relevant than most because of Muse’s pop culture status - a lot of kids picked up guitar because of him in the last 20 years.

But if there’s an argument to be made against Matt is that his playing is, all in all, not that proficient. Shit vibrato, minimal chops, all in all not too much to speak of when it comes to lead guitar.

I think that might wind up in the "Honorable Mentions" section, which could be fleshed out with more players from outside the more specific Dino range.

I think @TravisW hit the nail on the head with the Honourable mentions.

As far as the players I'm referring to, most would probably belong there too.

For instance, Alex Skolnick probably doesn't deserve to be in the main profile for certain reasons, including that he wasn't a progenitor.

I think Dave hit on all the main, vital players in the genre. The only one I kind of miss is Ted Nugent, but it's arguable that he didn't do any more than Angus Young (for instance) to further the genre and/or leave a lasting mark (arguably less, though Ted was a kick ass player).

If we’re talking about purely progenitors of the Dino genre, then yeah, this genre bloomed in the 70s and 80s and anybody younger just rehashed what came before. Anything new from the 90s and up was various kinds of heavier metal, grunge, alternative and post-alternative, and now Djent. But none of those carry the spirit of Dino rock.

Suppose there’s no guitarists worthy of a profile, maybe singer profiles then?

Love Muse and RHCP

Dont think Frusciante or Bellamy have anything Dino in them. The same goes for Gilmour, Knopfler (the Anti Dino).

I could make a case for the southern rock players from bands like Skynurd Molly Hatchet but Dave has stated those guys aren't Dino

The one player who I think really deserves an Alchemy Profile is Paul Gilbert and I would be honored and delighted to write it
