Greetings From Borneo!
Dear Dinos,
I have just joined the Dinosaur Rock Guitar community and
I want to introduce myself. My name is Jim, I am 44, and Ive been playing rock
guitar since I was 13. I have played in professional bands, composed and
recorded, taught guitar, and also done sessions.
I first discovered DRG in 2004 and have appreciated it
ever since. For instance, the Alchemy profile on Gary Moore reminded me that he
used to be a shit hot rock player and drove me to spend many happy hours revisiting
his early records (and to finally nail that ascending run on Out In The Fields).
However, being out of the game for a long time, I didnt feel right joining the
community officially. Silly, I know.
Well, life does get in the way but I cant deny it
anymore: I need rock guitar in my life, and so I am back practicing hard and
loving every minute of it. In particular, I have decided that my alternate
picking must finally become more reliable and precise. The Troy Grady videos
have been a great help in bringing order to my self-taught technique. I compose
and record using Reaper and BIAS Amp 2 and while its not the same as a real
amp, BIAS does give a surprisingly good plexi tone. I can get a sound just like
a rare red Marshall head I picked up while working in a music shop just outside
London in my teens. Of course, I only found out it was a rare red Marshall
after I sold it at half its real value since the previous owner had painted it
black for some reason true story!
I am English but I currently live on the island of
Borneo. Yes, Orang Utans and Proboscis Monkeys are a common sighting but unfortunately,
Dino Rock Guitarists are not. There is no one to watch and no one to jam with. So
I would sure appreciate talking to others who also feel that stirring in their
guts and balls when power chords grind. I look forward to getting to know you
all better in the coming days and weeks.
Cheers! And I apologise in advance if my replies are late
most of you will just be getting up as I get ready to go to bed!

Welcome. I too discovered this site as a young man but only joined in recent years(in my early 40s now). Huge mistake, but better late than never.

Thanks for the welcome guys, most kind. Yes, better late
than never.
As for how I ended up here: my wife and I met at university
in England. She had to return to Borneo so I came across with her.

So how do the other monkeys and orangutans respond to guitars through Marshalls? Something tells me they'd be great on drums.

No
electricity in the jungle, Dave, so Marshalls are out. But they have been known
to improvise:
And as for drums, you are more right than you know.
Something I saw just this morning:
Any resemblance to any 'human' bandmates, past or
present, is purely coincidental.
