Introducing myself
Hello everybody and thank you Dave for approving my request to join this great forum.
I discovered this forum while I was looking for info on Blackmore's and Uli Roth's styles and was impressed by how well researched and well written are the alchemy profiles. I really enjoyed reading the 'About US' because I thought I have many things in common.
I attended and graduated from BIT (Bass Institute of Technology) in Hollywood in 1989-90.
I've been playing bass for 32 years (from 11 to 43 years old) and I like (and can play the lines of) Billy Sheehan, Gezzer Butler, JPJ, Geddy Lee, Steve Harris and Roger Glover.
I don't play professionally (maybe for the best) but I have friends that make a living playing covers and I think I couldn't stand playing what they have to play.
After many ups and downs I went back to school and got a degree in the medical field. I make my living teaching in a university and doing a little office work.
After many years of not being in a band I decided to try guitar again since I started on acoustic guitar for about a year before taking up bass seriously and I'm loving it.
I don't care if I never play Albert Hall, LA Forum or any club, my only goal is to enjoy playing and maybe someday be able to play like the players I like: Uli, Blackmore mainly but also Hendrix, Schenker, Yngwie, Stump, Randy, Page, Clapton to name a few. Here's my last.fm profile if you want to check what I listen to: http://www.last.fm/user/MannyNix
I find trying to play guitar after decades of playing bass is possible, but it takes some time to get used to string spacing and using a pick (finger style bassist). I used to practice bass from 4 to 16 hours sometimes, can't do that anymore (work) but I'm doing my best to practice one or maybe two hours sometimes. It's really rewarding. English is my 2nd language and I (unfortunately) hail from Mexico.
Besides music I like to play with GNU/Linux and gaming (Dino type games mostly: dooms, quakes, starcraft, and a few new ones too).
I'm recently getting into home recording and purchased a license from Reaper (http://www.reaper.fm). I'm fortunate to have a friend that teaches audio and recording at a music school and he recommended it, and another friend mentioned it may be Linux friendly in the future.
I hope it wasn't too long for an introduction, feel free to ask if I missed anything.
It's great to know there are people out there that share some common interests and likes and have gone through similar things in life, I'd like to hang out and learn from you. Thanks for reading.
Happy holidays and best wishes!

Cool thanks. Besides those I also like John Entwistle (who I met in LA) Jack Bruce, Jeff Berlin, Stu Hamm, Hendrix bassists Noel Redding and Billy Cox, Steve Bailey, Michael Manring, Marcus Miller and definitely some of the stoner style bassists (Kyuss, Fu Manchu) and the list goes on and on...
(I should check later if there's an older post already about favorite bass players you would like to play with).

Welcome to the only board that really matters when it comes to Dino Guitar or anything Dino for that matter.
