Welcome. Please don't apologize for coming from the land of tequila and wonderful food!

I feel your pain. I played bass for about 7 years before switching to guitar for the last 25, and I was probably a better bassist than I will ever be a guitarist. Bass gives you hands like a gorilla and GI Joe's kung fu grip, which is great for bass, but not so conducive to the light touch required for dino dexterity on light strings.

Still. Onward we trudge. :shred:
It's not a restring until I'm bleeding.

On the other hand, switching from bass to guitar is a whole lot better than switching from lead guitar to guitar (that should make sense).

Thank you David! To be honest I just wish Uli came more often than once every two years. I'd like to go to Cali or NY to the Sky Academy Seminar in 2013 but it kinda took me by surprise, so maybe next time.

I agree bass gives you a Steve Austin grip + Lee Majors fingers. At first I would almost pull out the strings from the nut of the guitar while bending.

I used to joke with my guitar player friends what I once read Billy Sheehan say in an interview (not his exact words, but along those lines): "Bass is really a strenght instrument, it has thick strings, long thick neck like a heavy baseball bat, huge tunning machines, a huge chuck of wood for a body and it uses (in the old days) huge amps with huge speakers that need 3 guys to carry. Its sound kicks you hard and it's such a powerfull instrument, it's obviously the most important in a band".

If you stand next to a big amp (thinking Kustom https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/32/Kustom_200_bass_amplifier_%281971%29.jpg) you'll feel all that air almost blowing you out of the stage. If you think about it, its sound is not a "woman tone" or sweet at all (unless it's fretless) if you use distortion (like Sheehan, Butler or Bruce) it's almost like a god damn lion roaring in the rock and roll jungle! It's obviously the manly man's instrument :biggrin2:

All kidding aside, I find that the lighter touch on guitar and narrower string spacing is almost designed for speeding and self expression.

I'm also enjoying learning sweep picking, alternate picking, etc. which I used to do on bass with finger raking techniques. I'm not planning to quit bass completely but I'd really like to explore the possiblities for greater musical expression, melody, feeling and 'sex' of dino guitar.

I know it'll take a while but I'm really enjoying the journey.
