Hi dinos!
I am an 24 years guy from Rio de Janeiro, started playing guitar at the age of 14, but didn't take that serious all the time, so I don't play as good as I should be. I'm not a shredder, don't know theory, etc...
I don't remember how I found DRG, It was sometime ago (probably 6 months to an year), been reading a lot the alchemy, and also the equipment reviews. I was introduced to some bands I didn't know about, and encouraged to go deep on the ones I alredy knew. Than I started reading some forum threads, always interesting, and I love guitar porn hehehehe Anyway when I saw DRG I learned that the guitar playing style I liked even had a name, "dino" hehehe
When I was young I had really no taste in music, but at 13 I was introduced to Iron Maiden and some Brazilian bands, and it was the starting point to discovering a whole new world in time, I also became addicted to power metal and such. Time passed and I discovered Van Halen, Judas Priest, Def Leppard, Dio, Ratt/Dokken, Gary Moore... but the first guitar hero I admired was Paul Gilbert, I think he introduced me to 80's metal guitar, and than Randy Rhoads, but I think I really got into it when I first listened to Come On Feel The Noise, Quiet Riot version. Then I said "oh my fuckin god, this is it, I found myself now, this is my kind of music!" Today I don't care that much about Paul Gilbert, I found out there are other guys out there that are more into my taste.
I have wanted to play the guitar since I was a child, but no one encouraged me to do it, and I didn't have the attitude to want to play by myself until I was 14. When I finnaly got my first acoustic guitar, and got addicted, unfortunantly I hired a teacher that made everything in musical theory look much more dificult than it was, so today I am pretty weak at theory... I'm also no shredder, and I stopped playing the guitar for some time, thought I was terrible, but now I am going deep on it again, some people like my playing, but still I feel shame when someone expects me to play something that requires me to shred and I fail, or play everything missing notes and buzzy... besides that I really try to put my heart on what I play. I don't know if I can be considered a dino, but that is what I aim to be. If somebody says I'm a dino I think I'm gonna blush aehuaheuaea
I am graduating in History, writing my dissertation about the association of heavy metal with the devil. Been a pleasent research, It was my advisor's Idea, as I wanted something about heavy metal. My advisors dissertation was about Batman, so he is really into those unusual themes for historiography.
At the time I own a Kramer Focus 3000, a Kramer XL3 and a Charvel Model 3 with pickguard, I play through a Laney CUB12. I am currently very happy about my equipment, get good dino tone out of this amp, but for that I have to use a lot of volume and disturb the neighbours xD
I don't know much people where I live who have the same taste in music, so It's hard for me to find the guys to play, I have no band... but I am looking for one, as I really have that feeling that I want to make it, to be known for my music...
And it's good to meet people in the forum with the same taste as me, so I can discuss and learn from a lot of guys here who are more experienced in music, and also lived all those golden years.
Sorry for my english, sometimes I write in english thinking with portuguese logic...
