Uli - Iridium NYC 4/27/2024 with GOOD video!

I've seen all my guitar heroes -- and most of them in their primes, 30-40 years ago. But I'd never seen Uli live.  This was one of the most astonishing nights of guitar performance I've ever seen. He's everything you want YJM to be, but isn't! 
Uli's about to turn 70 in December, and the man was jaw-droppingly, ridiculously good. 
He's lost NOTHING. Doesn't matter whether he's being gentle and delicate or ripping you an new one, his face never changes from that chill, trippy hippy he's always been.  His tone was insane. His vibrato was breathtaking. Just a fucking MASTER of everything. 

The Iridium is a small club and I was about 15 feet away from Uli and got a great view of everything. Everyone was my age or older. Men outnumbered wives/girlfriends 10-1.

Uli came out and for the first 1hour and 15 minutes, he played classical music and some of his own classical compositions to a backing track. Mozart. Vivaldi. Stuff like Rondo alla Turca -- just ridiculous. We were asked not to film any of that so I didn't. Then, after a 15 minute break, he came out with the band and did the rock stuff for another hour +.

And he barely sang at all!

Thanks for posting all these vids up Dave, excellent stuff, glad you just concentrated on Uli. Good that you finally got to see him, I've been lucky enough to see him probably 8 or 9 times over the years the first one being in 1983 when he was still playing his white Strat. Across all those dates I don't think I've seen him dialing it in once and he's still progressing and getting better! I haven't seen him live since pre-covid times but will try and get to another gig soon if he plays England again after all these US dates.

Uli in concert remains to this day one of the absolute best live experiences I have ever had. Absolutely amazing is selling it short, to be honest.

It doesn't hurt he was opening for Mad Mikey. And this one was a good Schenker experience. Clean, sober, renewed Schenker circa 2011, before he started with the mostly legato stuff. He was picking like a demon that day.

Back to Uli, when I saw him that day he did mostly a set of 70's Scorpions stuff. Basically every song I wanted to hear by him, he played that day. Backstage Queen, Picture Life, In Trance, We'll Burn the Sky, you get the idea.

I was with one of my friends that day, he is the biggest Scorpions fanboy you will ever meet. He is of course a huge fan of these two, and by mid Uli set he tells me "this is so good I don't want him to stop. I can do without Schenker at this point!"

The Mikey started playing and he quickly changed his mind LOL.

By the end of the concert they jammed on some old UFO stuff. As I said, probably my all time favorite concert.

i saw that tour at London Hammersmith Apollo,  recall Michael just played with the Scorpions, not his own set.  The 4 Lovedrive tracks i think,  Uli joined for 4 or 5 early tracks.  a great night!
