New song from Ozzy and… Clapton?
New song from Ozzy and… Clapton?
So this contains the ballsiest EC solo of the past 20 years or so, no kidding. Also features a wah wah! I’m surprised this collab happened.

Yeah, chalk and cheese make strange bedfellows. I know you were kidding, but that kind of maybe does have more attitude than anything I'd heard from EC since Cream. Mind you, it's NOT Cream-EC, still tame by Ozzy guitarist standards, and Eric's like a fish out of water, but he certainly digs in more than you get from him on his own. What's next for Ozzy? Jimmy Page?

I did say “last 20 years”, so it’s relative. Still, there’s a wah wah on there. There’s a ”fast” run or two.Dinosaur wrote:I know you were kidding, but that kind of maybe does have more attitude than anything I'd heard from EC since Cream. Clapton definitely played more interestingly than he has in a loooong while. Osbourne's voice doesn't help what for me is kind of a meh song overall.
In fact, despite a really nice effort from Beck, pretty much everything I've heard from this album has underwhelmed me. The exceptions are the solos, and I did headbang a bit to the Tony Iommi track...but then, it's Tony Iommi.

Has anyone actually loved anything by Ozzy post 1987? 1992?Haffner wrote: ↑Sun Sep 11, 2022 2:00 am Clapton definitely played more interestingly than he has in a loooong while. Osbourne's voice doesn't help what for me is kind of a meh song overall.

That song, as most of his output in the last 30 years, is quite forgettable. Maybe a couple of hidden gems here and there, like that Iommi song, but that's it.
I will say, Clapton sounds like well, Clapton of old here. Maybe not Cream Clapton, but he sounds way more like what I think of him sounding before ALD struck. It's been years since I heard anything even close to sounding like this. Still can't stand the guy, but the playing is cool.

Last thing I loved was Ozzmosis. Great album. Almost as good as NMT.Tatosh wrote:Sat Jan 03, 1970 8:58 pmHas anyone actually loved anything by Ozzy post 1987? 1992?

I can't stand Clapton either. Loved his playing in Cream. But that's literally the only good thing I can say about the man. Everything else:

Also, I can't believe he even agreed to do this track. For a guy who's never been comfortable in his own skin, this had to be further out of his comfort zone than he's ever been. That said, at the end of the day, it's a pop song. It's not like it was Dream Theater, but it's not a BLUES song either.

Yeah, Ozzmosis was cool. Perry Mason was a rocking tune. I still play that riff when I set one my guitars to drop D. I am pretty sure that was the last time I really liked anything by the Ozzman.Dinosaur wrote: Last thing I loved was Ozzmosis. Great album. Almost as good as NMT.

Yeah, EC is an asshole. The least said about him the better.
I still would have liked to see the look of his face when they presented him the song.

The only Osbourne-solo song I've really liked since Jake was fired was No More Tears, and that mostly for Wylde's guitar solo. I haven't bought an album by him since, though I gave 13 several listens on youtube because it was labelled "Black Sabbath". I thought that sucked, too (and this is coming from a HUGE Iommi and Butler fan).Tatosh wrote:Sat Jan 03, 1970 8:58 pmHas anyone actually loved anything by Ozzy post 1987? 1992?Haffner wrote: ↑Sun Sep 11, 2022 2:00 am Clapton definitely played more interestingly than he has in a loooong while. Black Sabbath (to some extent all the different eras) is tied with Judas Priest and the 70s versions of Blackmore's Rainbow as my favorite bands. But to me the overwhelming majority of Ozzy's solo stuff never reached the heights of the classic Black Sabbath (came closest with Rhoads).
I personally don't even think those two (still really good) Rhoads albums were anywhere near as good as the first two Sabbath with Ronnie Dio, but that's just me.
I thought the topic song and Osbourne's voce were meh, but it was nice hearing Clapton playing like he still had some testicular fortitude left. Surprising, never a big fan of his.
