Y only use some drop D sixth.
The only alt tunning actually justified by the playing is VH's Top Jimmy.
You can't play it on regular tunning.

Doesn't Jake E Lee use some weird tuning in Ozzy's a Shot in the Dark where he tunes up the low E and A strings a whole step?

I used to keep my Tele in 5 string open G like Keith, I did that for years. Now it's is standard but I go back and forth. I love dropped D. I use open E for slide when I'm working on Allman Brothers stuff.
I like DADGAD I've written a couple of things in that tuning but it's not my favorite. I also keep my 66 Mustang in Nashville Tuning all the time, doubling clean parts with that and my Tele is really fun and beautiful sounding.
