Vai 'invents' Joint Shifting Technique
Unusual to see Vai with single coils, no whammy and using fingers etc, but he does this strange bending thing at around 2:10.
Some strings bent up, others down and some fretted - Very weird

I think he's using a pitch shifter or whammy pedal or something in this? At the very end it looks like he steps on a pedal and you can sort of hear it. Also there are a couple moments in the performance that are so insane, it sounds like a pitch shifter or something is happening on top of everything elsebut since it's Steve Vai I guess it could all be technique. However, he definitely steps on something at the very end there.

That's kick ass. If he had played this in the guitar battle he had with the Karate Kid instead of the crap he played, he would have won that shit straight up...

Just found Vai's own vlog - He discusses this from 6:20 onwards. He describes this and other techniques in great detail - Really interesting

If you have to promote a SSS Jem (the first I saw) that's the way and excuse.
