Re: NGD - Milestone Birthday present to myself

I think Sykes was the only name player whoever got great tone out of the Dirty Fingers, and it was likely due to him adjusting the rest of the rig to work well with them. He also replaced them later (post Blue Murder, I think), btw.  There was a Gibson "Dirty Fingers" pickup in the bridge ...

Re: Behind The Recording of ACDC's Back In Black!

Pete Thorn just demoed this new thing which is kind of the same idea as all of these early boosts, but with a lot of tweak-ability.

Not something I need, but cool.

Re: NGD - Milestone Birthday present to myself

And since we're talking about pickups . . .  I was curious enough about the new Les Paul to do a recorded test of my 3 Les Pauls through the exact same Plexi-level gain amp/cab/speaker/mic rig. It was pretty interesting.  The old 54 has ONE original 1960 PAF -- split in two, with a custom, matching ...

Re: NGD - Milestone Birthday present to myself

I'm pretty sure Sykes put them in his guitar as a replacement.  I didn't think the Dirty Fingers came stock in any Gibson, but I guess they tried to cater to the early 80s metal guys for a minute. They were way too hot for Gibson to make them stock for the general public. The Dirty Fingers were Gibs...

Re: NGD - Milestone Birthday present to myself

The T top was a stock Gibson pickup for a bunch of years. They were in Vs and I believe Explorers. Not sure if they were ever in SGs, and I don't believe they were ever Les Pauls.  The TONAL difference between a Les Paul and other Gibson solid body guitars (without Maple caps) is that a LP produces ...

Re: NGD - Milestone Birthday present to myself

i can't help but notice the DARK rosewood board on this guitar. i see expensive Les Pauls all the time that have an ashy gray board, and i'm like, why would someone spend $9k on THAT?? gorgeous guitar, Dave   Thanks! My 2014's board has a very similar dark Indian board. I like the rosewood (Brazili...

Re: New strings oxidizing before use?

My first guess was a humidity issue might cause it, but they're not in an overly humid environment.

Re: NGD - Milestone Birthday present to myself

I honestly don't know much about the Custombucker other that (I think) it's their standard pup for all of the vintage reissues. I'm sure virtual reams of info probably exist if you google or YouTube search.
