An R9-sized Dillema
I wanna preface this by saying that I'm a strat guy. LPs are cool, but I never connected with one. Until today. A buddy is selling a 2018 R9. 8.6 pounds. Sound freaking great. It's also the first LP I ever bonded with. The price is OK. Thing is, I'm a bit low on cash atm. Should I get it? An LP that...

Re: Having a large repertoire of songs to play
About "justifying one's preferences." I agree we don't and should not have to justify our preferences. But I do find it interesting to discuss one's preferences, and helpful if a person can articulate WHY they like something. Most musicians CAN do this on some level. Non players, not as e...

Re: Having a large repertoire of songs to play
I play in a cover band now. We have one rehearsal per week. Before this band, I didn't have much incentive to learn whole songs, so I learned many bits from many songs. If I were to redo my whole musical history, I would focus on the quantity of songs versus learning just the juicy parts. My musicia...

Woah, breathtaking!!
Wish I had the dough, or the space, or the excuse to get something like that. Les Pauls continue to elude me.

Re: You Know What?
What's the point of going "anti" anything these days? With the web democratizing all genres it seems no longer "cool" to hate anything. These days young shredders love John Mayer, and vice-versa  And yeah, there's a BIG resurgence of guitar technique these last few years....

I'm happy Zakk is having fun, but I don't see a need for another Paranoid recording by ANYONE.

Re: VH1 sound was a Fender Bandmaster??
Cool sound. In the ballpark. But a proper Eddie-specced Plexi + variac + speakers also gets there. Why the speculation, then? Because after years of being fed the Plexi + variac story, more than one person has come forward, seemingly with knowledge that it was a Bandmaster tweaked in this specifi...

Re: Alex Van Halen book coming
It's heartbreaking if you think about it. The two Van Halen's were inseparable since they were kids, through immigration, school, music, fame, life... And now it's just Alex.
Yeah, I'll give it a read.
