Re: New Lerxst Limelight superstrat

For that money, I'd look for one of the limited run done by Freddy Gabrsek done about ten years ago. He had done tech work for Alex over the years and got permission from Alex to do a limited run after having the original Hentor in his possession for 6 months to take measurements, etc. They pop up o...

Re: First listen to a song - Music Video vs. audio only

I can't think of any song that I liked where I preferred watching the video to listening to the song. That might be due to growing up without MTV, but I agree that really comes down to divided attention and I think that for most people vision is the most immediately stimulating sense, which may rele...

Re: Behind the Recording of Led Zeppelin II

Moving between that many tape machines, it's amazing that the Heartbreaker solo was probably the biggest tuning issue on the whole record (and that wasn't that big a deal).

Re: Bruce - Mandrake Project released!

One thing a buddy of mine and I both noted is that it seems a bit like you took the Best of Bruce Dickinson, put it in a bowl, stirred in a couple new ingredients, and made something new out of it; meaning that it isn't a  METAL  record, but a record that has a good bit of metal on it. There are a l...

Re: Bruce - Mandrake Project released!

I waited for the record to show up, so I'm right about the middle of the first listen through. Man, Bruce sounds really good on this. I'm absolutely loving "Mistress of Mercy" right now.

Re: Switching down to .09s!

I went back to 9's on all my Fender-scale guitars a couple years back. I like the feel and it's easier on the hands, especially since now I just don't log the consistent guitar hours I used to and it's a lot easier for me to get "weekend warrior" syndrome and get my left hand hurting.

Re: Dino Dave: Musical memoirs of a would-be guitar hero

Yikes! It's kind of the thing with bands. They develop lives of their own and the core members can wind up dealing with personal, professional, financial, and sometimes physical aftermath for years after the band itself ended.

Re: More Live Uli era Scorps emerges on YT

Uli Roth puts as much into some dive bombs as I've put into entire solos. I saw him 3 times, and he gets after that whammy bar like it slapped his mother. And even the Sky guitar really doesn't have any great tuning advantage over a Strat with a 2pt trem.

Re: Dino Dave: Musical memoirs of a would-be guitar hero

Just finished 10 and 11. Similar to my last set of comments, I didn't have any need to refresh my memory on my prior couple of reading sessions. This was interesting, in that it knit together the narrative that I'd followed during my first few years on the DRG forum and gave more in depth insight th...
