BWBK's Top 30 of 2009 - Interesting

This top 30 is from one of the e-zines that I have a lot of respect for and have followed for years.  Don't always agree with them, but more often than not I enjoy what they do and look to them when it comes to reviews.  I can only say that about 2-3 e-zines.  Here is their top 30 for 2009.  What do you think?

  • Chickenfoot really shouldn't be on any top lists. If this weren't a supergroup nobody would have took notice of it.

A better list than most but aimed squarely at the hip metal teen with his plastic drinking horn.

  • It looks like this list was created a little more genuinly or at least with a little more heart than Time's.  It's interesting how the Internet has changed the likes of media and how information gets distributed. The mass consumption and dance in front of the public eye of publications like Time make it difficult for them to get any real work done, I suppose.

What stood out for me were:
Kiss at 28, Cheap Trick at 26, Chickenfoot at 18 (yeah, I actually still enjoy this album), Porcupine Tree at 15, Heaven & Hell at 9, AIC at 8 and Megadeth at 1.  Yes, I recognize pretty much every name on there although there are a few that I just never listen to as they are not my cup of tea, but this is probably one of the most honest lists of the mag publishers.  I usually like it when each reporter/editor/reviewer posts their personal picks.  That gives me a better birds eye view of the world than an averaged list which we have here.  Found it interesting nonetheless.

Never mistake a clear view for a short distance.

I know barely 10 bands from that list...   but Megadeth's "Endgame" at #1 is OK in my book.  It's a brilliant album.

The cynical might suggest its a list to appease their advertisers....

Perhaps, except that there is a lot of diversity in companies on that list.  In the past BWBK was known for not pandering to advertisers in their lists. That could have changed over the years of course.

The overwhelming majority of this stuff I couldn't care less about. The Kreator sounds good. I feel like a traitor, not having known much about their newer stuff. I stopped buying when they went emo-punk in the '90's.

Same here. They turned their back on metal when it wasn't hip anymore, so I turned my back on them.
I did buy the new album because it kicks major ass.

Did I miss the New Years Honors List?

Sancho no longer "Moderator", now "Jr Admin"?
