Love these guys and this really is an awesome song.   I last saw them in 1984 supporting Sammy Hagar.  They are returning to the US for the first time in 10 years for a final tour ever.  I already have my tickets for next August.  Can’t wait!

Burning Heart should certainly be in the conversation. For the Scorpions, among several, Still Loving You still tops my list, followed by We'll Burn the Sky.

Dream On is kind of the progenitor and father of all power ballads. But is it a power ballad, or an anthem? I'm fine with either distinction, or BOTH. (Stairway is not a power ballad. It has a different and unique compositional structure).

I have a power ballads playlist. Here's what's on it:
    • Take me for a Little While - Coverdale Page
    • Jelly Roll - Blue Murder (the back half is a power ballad)
    • Wasted Sunsets - Deep Purple
    • Dream On - Aerosmith
    • Goodbye to Romance - Ozzy
    • Don't Be Afraid of the Dark - Y&T
    • Parisian Walkways - Gary Moore
    • In Your Eyes - John Norum
    • Alone Again - Dokken
    • Crazy - Aerosmith
    • We'll Burn the Sky - Scorpions
    • Amamos La Vida - Accept
    • Arc of Space - Bruce Dickinson
    • Out of Love - Blue Murder
    • Never Change Your Mind - Loudness
    • Like I've Never Been Gone - Robert Plant
    • When a Blind Man Cries - Deep Purple
    • Mama I'm Coming Home - Ozzy
    • Winds of Change - Y&T
    • Take Hold of the Flame - Queensryche
    • Heaven's Missing an Angel - Glenn Hughes/John Sykes
    • Holiday - Scorpions
    • Still in Love with You - Thin Lizzy
    • I Need an Angel - Blue Murder
    • Martian Landscape - UFO
    • Where the Grass is Green - John Norum
    • Burning Heart - Vandenberg
    • Spanish Guitar - Gary Moore
    • Amazing - Aerosmith
    • Written All Over Your Face - Glenn Hughes
    • I Wish it Would Rain - Sykes
    • Tell Me Why - Dave Meniketti
    • Old LA Tonight - Ozzy
    • Still Loving You - Scorpions

In the midst of the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

Agreed, "Dream On" should be mentioned, even though as a power ballad it's not as typical as, say, "Burning Heart".

Here's another favorite of mine - maybe a tad more "ballad" than "power", but Chapman's solo is magnificent IMO.

Those are both great...this is mine:

I also want to throw a wild card in here. Though Technical Ecstasy is, besides 13, my least favorite Ozzy/Sabs album, I always liked this song a lot.

Wow....cool thread & especially love DDave's list....never thought about doing something like that myself....back to the original tune, I always thought Krokus were solid & loved that tune in particular....& they sounded tight live!

    Suite Madame Blue  -  Styx
Just Between You and Me  -  April Wine
    Amanda  -  Boston
    Cry No More. -  Arcade

I haven't thought about Styx in too long. Suite Madame Blue is a great song imo.

Some great choices here, I'm a Krokus fan too although I  prefer their rockier stuff. This epic ballad by TNT is right up there for me

That's a great version, but like Lizzy's Still in Love with You, or Parisian Walkways, it doesn't follow the classic PB format.  More straight ballad than "power ballad," IMO.

I'd throw "Looking For Love" by Whitesnake into the mix.
