Transcendence should be out soon. The two preview tracks are outstanding (if you are into that sort of thing). I preordered it because I am a fan and love his DTP stuff.
I was listening to that Rock opera album he put out not too long ago at my local record store(they have a bar with draft beer....so it's a regular off day hangout)...it it was pretty cool. I just don't know how often I would be in the mood for it.....it's pretty over the top. Apparently there is a live album too where performed it at Royal Albert Hall...
It's all good, but I really like the old Strapping Young Lad stuff. That being said, who wouldn't want to be invited to this party? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQLxkGGP3M0
I would suggest that you give Addicted a listen. That's one of his more easily-accessible albums, IMHO. If you're a metalhead, Strapping Young Lad's City is an essential!
I don't like his shred stuff either Jeb. For me, his songwriting and DTB stuff is awesome. I like his playing within that context, but you are right, there is a lack of emotion in some of his playing.

He toured with Steve Vai and was his lead vocalist . I hated him .
I know some of his shred albums and always found him to be a great example of the dreaded shred robot void of anything but flawless technique .
Maybe its time to give him a second chance ?

Yeah.....I feel like I'm in Army Boot Camp being yelled at . The vocals irritate me .
