Vandenberg - Vandenberg

Released in October of 1982, Vandenberg was a easily one of the best albums of that year, one of the best debut albums of the period. At the time of its release, the future looked bright for Vandenberg. They had a US hit with Burning Heart, but sadly, neither the band nor the album received much exposure. Read about it here.

Deep Purple - Come Taste the Band

It's so far removed from the band's classic lineup and sound, that purists argue that this album "shouldn't even be called Deep Purple." But if you can look past all that and focus on the music and the musicianship, Come Taste the Band has a lot to offer. Read about it here.

About Music Appreciation

This part of the website is devoted to album/CD reviews. It is different from the Forum's "CD review" section in that the reviews here are more in-depth. They'll contain track-by-track analysis and explain the reasons why this album is great. These reviews will stay up permanently. The purpose of this section is to expose fellow Dinosaurs to less-familiar CDs that are often "overlooked gems." If you haven't heard the particular album, these reviews may entice you to check it out. If you already own the album, the review may get you thinking about it in a new light. Or perhaps, you own it already, but haven't heard it in ages. Maybe the review may just make you wanna dig it out again.

I invite and encourage Forumites to contribute Music Appreciation Reviews. Be as thorough as possible -- follow the track-by-track format, and be as biased as you like in telling us why this album is great. Please do not write reviews for well-known albums that have sold a bazillion copies like Back in Black, Led Zeppelin IV, etc. Keep it about the "overlooked gem" that we might not have in our personal collection.

Jon Butcher - Wishes (bet you never heard this one)
Sykes - Nuclear Cowboy (still new, and already largely misunderstood)
John Norum - Another Destination (there's more here than shred)
"Coverdale-Page" (a pair of old Dinos show us how it's done)
Dave Meniketti - On the Blue Side (former Y&T frontman's 1st solo CD)
Jackyl - Cut the Crap (AC/DC for rednecks)
Sammy Hagar - Marching to Mars (Sammy's first post-VH CD)
